Apple ProRes

Apple ProRes is a video codec developed by Apple Inc. This codec is used in post production because of its powerful video specificities, including support for 4K video resolution and high-level video bitrate. Premium video content such as movies or TV shows are often encoded using ProRes to get very high video quality.

ProRes is the successor to the Apple Intermediate Codec and was released in 2007 with the introduction of Final Cut Studio 2.
